Dr. Sanath C. Fernando, consultant general physician is the head of the outpatient department (OPD) of the District General Hospital, Chilaw.

The main responsibilities of the OPD is to treat mild illnesses and admit the needy patient in to the wards. Apart from that the unit make appropriate referrals.

Furthermore the unit involves in minimizing NCDs, control diabetes and review clinics follow up and health education.
