The main responsibility of the unit is to assist in managing infections of all the patients who are being treated at different units as inpatient as well as on outpatient basis. Apart from that, taking necessary measures to prevent hospital – acquired infections and assisting with quality control are also some of the many.
Usual rounds are conducted by the consultant microbiologist and the rest of the team routinely in wards, ICU, as well as SCBU to visit the patients who are in need of close attention and clinical assessment to ensure the optimum care.
Pathogenic organism isolation and identification followed by assessment of sensitivity for a range of appropriate antibiotics are conducted for Blood, Urine, Pus, Sputum, Body tissues, cerebrospinal fluid and many other samples.
The team ensures to maintain constant bilateral communication with all the units and update on clinical as well as investigation data in order to deliver a personalized, updated and optimized care for each patient.
We as a unit ensure the proper record keeping of all these clinically relevant data to use them in direct patient management globally to fight infections through WHO – net.
